Aralia Fabian is a striking and low-maintenance plant known for its glossy, dark green leaves and upright growth. It prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate lower light conditions. However, in low light, it may grow more slowly, and the foliage may lose some of its vibrancy. Avoid placing it in direct sunlight, as this can scorch the leaves.
When it comes to watering, Aralia Fabian prefers to keep its soil slightly moist but not soggy. It’s important to let the top of the soil dry out before watering again. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so it’s crucial to ensure the pot has good drainage. To check when it’s time to water, simply stick your finger into the soil; if it feels dry a few inches down, it’s time to water.
Aralia Fabian thrives in warm temperatures, ideally between 65°F and 75°F (18°C to 24°C). It’s sensitive to cold drafts and temperatures below 50°F (10°C), so it should be kept in a place with consistent warmth. While it prefers moderate humidity, it can adapt to average home conditions. In drier air, especially during winter, occasional misting or a humidity tray can help the plant thrive.
For soil, Aralia Fabian prefers a well-draining, slightly acidic mix. A standard potting mix works well, but you can add perlite or sand to improve drainage. The plant doesn’t like its roots sitting in water, so good drainage is essential. During the growing season (spring and summer), you can fertilize Aralia Fabian once a month with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer. In the fall and winter, when the plant is not actively growing, you can reduce or stop fertilizing.
This plant doesn’t require much pruning, but you can trim any leggy or yellowing growth to keep it looking neat and to encourage new growth. If the plant becomes too tall or unshapely, you can also prune it to control its height and shape. Regularly removing any dead or damaged leaves will also help keep it healthy.
Repotting is necessary when the plant becomes root-bound or outgrows its current pot, usually every 1-2 years. When repotting, choose a pot that’s slightly larger than the current one to allow for growth. Always ensure the new pot has good drainage.
Aralia Fabian is generally pest-resistant but can occasionally attract common houseplant pests such as spider mites or aphids. If pests are noticed, treat the plant with insecticidal soap or neem oil. With the right care, Aralia Fabian will thrive and add a touch of lush greenery to your space.
